We believe that all children should have time spent learning outside.
It gives them the opportunity to build social skills, exposes them to new types of challenges that enhance problem-solving, and gives lots of chances to work as a team. But most importantly – it’s FUN!
We’ve teamed up with three local primary schools to offer them outdoor classes this Summer term as part of a pilot project that we are running. We will design, host and lead classes that are based on the Science, Geography and D+T curriculums.
Children and teachers will learn together in an alternative ‘classroom’ on our community garden site just next to Wandsworth Common.
Our classes are designed to teach the curriculum, and they will increase children’s resilience, allow them to test the boundaries of their worlds, and offer them the freedom to explore nature in a safe way. We believe that this will equip them to better understand themselves, their peers and the world around them.
We’re looking forward to sharing our learning from out pilot project and exploring how we can offer alternative learning experiences to more children in Wandsworth.
If you’re a teacher or parent who’s interested in finding out more about our learning outdoors project, get in touch! We’d love to hear from you.
