OUR STORY

2014

THE BEGINNING

The local community embarked on a mission to transform an overgrown acre of land at Dobbins Field, opposite HM Prison Wandsworth. Determined to breathe new life into the space, what was once bramble-covered and neglected began its transformation.

2015

THE PIGS ARRIVE

Clearing the land proved more challenging than anticipated. Rare-breed pigs were brought in to help prepare the soil. Their work cleared the ground and fertilised the land, laying the foundations for the garden’s first growing spaces.

2016 – 2017

BUILDING THE GARDEN

With the land cleared, we began planting and establishing essential infrastructure. Polytunnels, raised beds, an orchard and spaces for community activities were added, while projects like building a pizza oven fostered our love of sharing food together.

2018 – 2021

A PLACE FOR LEARNING & GROWTH

Local schools began visiting the garden for outdoor learning opportunities. Over time, the site evolved into a vibrant wildlife haven, with wildflower meadows and ponds providing a sanctuary for local biodiversity.

2021 TO TODAY

With essential funding secured, our community and education programmes expanded. We launched our Community Food Initiative, began hosting annual festivals, and cemented our place as a valued community asset in Wandsworth. Today, Paradise Cooperative welcomes more than 5,000 people each year to connect and grow with nature.
