Wandsworth Prison family day

Every month a group of volunteers visit the Family Day held at HM Wandsworth prison. These days were developed recently by the prison to provide longer and better quality time for the men and their families.

Instead of the standard hour-long visit where children have to sit at one table for the whole time, the new Family Days are for half a day, and allow for families to play, do crafts and eat lunch together.

Our volunteers have really enjoyed leading craft activities and getting to know some of the families that have come along. We’ve planted cress-heads and sunflower seeds, decorated biscuits, and led a noisy nursery rhyme sing-a-long.

The prison itself (employees, charities, men and their families) are a key part of our community. We’re always looking for ways that we can get to know this part of our community better. If you’re interested in coming along to see what we get up to at our next Family day, please get in touch! You don’t need experience, just an interest in finding out more.
